Parking: There is parking at the station or down the hill from the Dam itself if you’d like to come for the Dam activities only
Leaders: Owen and Ray
Description: We’ll meet at the train station and head off towards the Dam. Leaving Todmorden we rise quickly out of the valley and up toward the horizon gaining views back toward the town and converging valleys. Approaching the final bank of the hillside with Gaddings Dam a short climb above us we have an optional extra hiking loop for those keen to keep rambling.
So some people might: Continue straight to the Dam with Ray for chilling by the waterside.
Other might choose to: Join Owen for an hour’s additional hike which will be a traverse of the hill, passing old quarry remains to rejoin everyone at the Dam.
When the group is back together, there is the option to swim, simply relax, and/or to join in with a beginner-friendly Mindful Movement session.
The Mindful Movement is a 20-minute guided stretch and breathing session to relax and ground us using slow movement inspired by pilates and mobility work.
After drying off, we’ll have time for a picnic before heading down to The Shepherd’s Rest Inn below the Dam for those that fancy joining, or feel free to make your own way back.
What to bring/wear:
Hiking boots/shoes
Water
Picnic/Snacks (option to get food at the Inn afterwards if you prefer)
Weather appropriate clothing and layers (waterproofs if rain is forecast)
Optional:
Swimwear if going in the water (can be anything you feel most comfortable in including tshirts over swimsuits or any clothes you don't mind getting wet)
Blanket/towel or something to sit on at the Dam
Toilets: Can be found at Todmorden train station and The Shepherd’s Rest Inn (at the foot of the Dam)
Vibes: Valley views, Waterside R&R, Mindful Movement and Outdoor Swim
