Description: Starting from Hebden Bridge, we'll follow the peaceful canal towpath before climbing through woodland trails and riverside paths into the beautiful Hardcastle Crags valley. The trail continues northward along Hebden Water as it meanders through the wooded valley. There is some stunning scenery to be enjoyed along the way. We'll pause at Gibson Mill for coffee and a rest — a perfect halfway stop amid history and nature, before carrying on back to Hebden. Eventually, the trail crosses the river via stepping-stones and makes its way through farmland to Slack Top and back down to Mytholm.

The terrain will be a mix of canal towpath, riverside woodland tracks, muddy farm-tracks, fields, and some steeper slopes and steps. The 313 m ascent means you’ll have some significant ups (and downs) - walks in the Calder valley are rarely flat! But we'll take these sections at a steady pace.

What to bring: Sturdy shoes with ankle support than can withstand mud and uneven ground. Hiking boots are recommended but decent trainers if you don’t have boots. Warm layers and a waterproof jacket. Hat and gloves if you have them. Waterproof trousers if you have those. Make sure you keep warm! 2L of water. A packed lunch and plenty of snacks to keep you going.

Toilets: Can be found at the Station and at Gibson Mill.

Vibes: Autumn colours, varied terrain and scenery, moderate challenge, river sounds, great cafes, queer joy, new pals.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome :)
