Description: This one is a little bit special 🍂🥾🧘
Starting in Glossop, we’ll head out through Manor Park before picking up the historic Doctor’s Gate route and making our way out towards the moors. Expect a proper autumn Dark Peak walk: open views, rugged paths, streams, moorland and (almost certainly) a bit of mud.
Partway through the walk, we’ll stop at James’s Thorn for an outdoor yoga and breathwork session, led by Au Calme Yoga & Movement. We’ll be nicely warmed up from walking by then, and the session will be designed for exactly where we are: a short, accessible standing flow with simple movements such as a warrior sequence, followed by a little breathwork and a moment to slow down and take in our surroundings. No yoga experience needed and no need to bring a mat.
If the Peak District weather has other ideas, we’ll adapt! If it’s too wet or wild to practise comfortably on the route, we’ll move the yoga session to the end of the walk instead.
From there, we’ll continue our loop back into Glossop, finishing at Glossop Market Hall, where anyone who fancies it can stay on for lunch, coffee and a natter. There are loads of independent food options to choose from, plus Bold Street Coffee – and we’ll have a little discount on coffee for the group. ☕️
The terrain is a mix of park paths, tracks, rocky and uneven trails and open moorland. There are some decent climbs along the way, so you’ll need a reasonable level of fitness, but as always, we’ll walk together and take the hills at a steady pace.
What to bring: Sturdy walking shoes or boots that can handle mud, rocks and uneven ground. A waterproof jacket and warm layers – October on the moors can be chilly even if Glossop feels mild! Hat and gloves are a good shout. Waterproof trousers if you have them. Bring around 2L of water, a packed lunch and plenty of snacks.
You don’t need a yoga mat or any yoga equipment for the flow.
Toilets: At the start and end of the walk, and also in manor Park about 1KM in
Vibes: Autumn moorland, big Dark Peak views, moving our bodies, slowing down in nature, muddy boots, queer joy, breathwork, coffee, lunch and new pals. 🍂🌈
Dogs: Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome :) (there may be some livestock on the Moors)
